Developing skills during bath time!
Finding time to help develop these skills in busy households can be challenging. Start by using everyday activities like bath time!
Bath time isn’t just about getting clean—it’s a golden opportunity to help your child develop communication skills in a fun and natural way. Because it’s a daily routine with few distractions, it’s the perfect time to build their attention, listening and concentration.
Here’s how you can make the most of it:
1. Play Simple Games to Build Communication
Turn bath time into a playful back-and-forth! Try filling a cup with water and holding it up while saying, “Ready… steady… go!” Then pour! After a few turns, pause before saying “go” to encourage your child to respond—whether through a sound, a gesture, or a word.
2. Keep Your Language Simple and Clear
Narrate what’s happening in short, simple phrases. If your child uses single words, model at their level: “Splash!” or “Pour water.” If they’re starting to combine words, build slightly: “Washing arm” or “Big bubbles.”
3. Rotate Bath Toys to Expand Vocabulary
Introduce new objects, like toy animals, kitchen utensils, or small boats, and talk about them as you play: “Washing the duck” or “Big boat floating.” Swapping out toys regularly keeps language learning fresh and engaging!
Make Everyday Moments Count
